Step-by-Step Guide to Data Exclusions in Search Ads 360 (SA360)

SEM

Google Ads has pretty great documentation when it comes to product features. That said, any SEM marketer knows that its counterpart, Search Ads 360, is inferior in that department. I recently time digging around the Search Ads 360 platform trying to find the data exclusion section because the help documentation omits how to actually implement this feature. To save you a headache during a time of crisis, I wrote this article.

Quick Refresher: When and Why to Use Data Exclusions in Search Ads 360

Data exclusions is a product feature that tells the Google Smart Bidding Algorithm to ignore data from specified timeframe. This can be useful if you experienced temporary conversion tracking issues.

SA360 allows you to exclude not only the date, but data down to the exact hours that were impacted. This helps you preserve crucial business data if your tracking was only down for a portion of the day.

The data exclusion date must be in the past for you to submit your data exclusion, otherwise you will receive an error message and will not be able to complete the action.

Step-by-Step Guide to Data Exclusions in Google Search Ads 360 (SA360)

Sign in to your Google Search Ads 360 account (SA360).

  1. Bid the bidding section.

  2. Under “Shared library,” select Bid strategies.

  3. Select the Data exclusions option at the top.

  4. Select Advanced Controls from the page menu on the left.

  5. Click the plus button to add a new data exclusion.

There you have it. Quick and straightforward. Now you can feel confident applying these exclusions to omit outliers from impacting your smart bidding.
